公主

Princess Mary in 1544 & Princess Elizabeth aged 13,1546

(2) Princess Mary & Elizabeth
然而在這種看不見的牢獄中, 她們又相通又對立: " Although the popular rumour would have it that Mary disliked her younger half-sister, in fact they appear to have been fond of one another. However their relationship suffered when the two women were placed in opposite camps by religion and politics." Mary I is often known as "Bloody Mary". 史上形容 "Upon Mary's death there was rejoicing in the streets of London". Mary was expelled from Court, her servants were dismissed from her service, and she was forced to serve as a lady-in-waiting to Elizabeth. She was not permitted to see her mother Catherine, nor attend her funeral in 1536. Her treatment at this time was widely perceived as unjust. It is said that Anne Boleyn encouraged her ladies-in-waiting to slap Mary and verbally abuse her, though she was careful not to do this in front of the King." 因此她得勢以後, "imprisoned her half-sister, the Princess Elizabeth, in the Tower of London for suspected treason and collaboration with the traitor Thomas Wyatt".

" Elizabeth was resourceful, determined, and exceedingly intelligent. She loved learning for its own sake. Like her mother and father, she was flirtatious and charismatic." 相反, Elizabeth I 就是 "Princess of Spring". 她獲得這樣的評價: "During her procession to the throne, she was welcomed wholeheartedly by the common people, who performed plays and read poetry extolling her beauty and intelligence." "Elizabeth, nearly three years old when her mother died, was declared illegitimate and lost the title of princess. She also lost the money and gifts her mother had routinely showered upon her."
只知道, 她的後期舉動不曾顯示敵對的態度: "After Edward's death, Lady Jane ascended the throne, but was deposed less than two weeks later. Armed with popular support, Mary rode triumphantly into London, her half-sister Elizabeth at her side."

"Then 37, Mary turned her attention to finding a husband and producing an heir that would prevent the Protestant Elizabeth (still her successor under the terms of Henry VIII's will) from succeeding to the throne."
"For Philip was completely political, under the terms of the marriage treaty, Philip was to be styled "King of England"
" It is said that upon viewing a portrait of Philip, Mary declared herself to be "half in love with him." 但是 " he admired her dignity but felt no carnal love for her."

Elizabeth is referred to as the "Virgin Queen" .
"It was advantageous in several ways for Elizabeth to retain her reputation as a virgin. Had she married, a reigning queen risked her political supremacy deferred to a husband's authority." 但是 "Elizabeth I was besotted with Robert Devereux,Earl of Essex".

Latin inscription on a marble plaque on their tomb (affixed there during the reign of James I) translates to "Partners both in Throne and grave, here rest we two sisters, Elizabeth and Mary, in the hope of one resurrection".

Happy Ending, Excellent love (of all kinds);
